About Terry

Born in Cheshire in 1929 Terry McKivragan studied at Wimbledon Art School, gaining his National Diploma in Design. Then followed a career in commercial art, including extensive experience as a designer, illustrator and Art Director and culminating in the running of his own graphic design studio.

Throughout this period of his career, Terry’s love of watercolour landscape painting and his admiration for painters like Turner, grew in strength and in 1986 he left the commercial world and became a freelance artist, concentrating on watercolour painting.

A recent development is in the use of acrylics – a medium that lends itself to much larger paintings with a more impressionistic and bolder technique. These have been accepted for the Britain’s Painters Exhibition (winning the Best Acrylic award), for the Hunting/Observer Art Prizes Finalists Exhibition, for the Laing Art Competition National Exhibition and for the RI (Medal Award for the most outstanding work by a non member) as well as the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. Terry’s work is also included Acrylics Masterclass – a book published by Harper Collins which discusses the work and techniques of nine artists, and has been featured in art magazines.

He is a member of The Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours and exhibits at the Mall Galleries in London with the Royal Society of British Artists (RBA) and the Royal Society of Marine Artists (RSMA) and is a member of the Chelsea Art Society.

Terry’s paintings are to be found in various galleries, and in private and corporate collections throughout the UK and abroad. His work is published as limited edition prints, calendars and greeting cards, selling throughout the UK and abroad (especially Japan) and includes specially commissioned editions for large commercial organisations.
